Like every other avid gamer, I am excited for the arrival of the PS5. However I am abit concerned about it having two models?
There is one model that comes equipped with an Ultra HD Blu Ray Drive and another "cheaper" version that has no Blu Ray Drive.
My issue with this is Sony is playing everyone (pun intended lol) by creating the space for the thought that they have a model with download only games, so that they scale back manufacturing costs and thus charge the customer less for that as alternative option than it having a drive.
But this is far from truth because buying the download only version, you save money at the beginning to fork out waaaaay more later. Why? Because with a download only option you can only buy games from the Sony PS Store, so they have complete control of the prices. Thus, gamers will not have access to cheaper options, such as buying a game 2nd hand from different stores or ebay, borrowing a game from a friend or return it if you dont like it. They are eliminating the competition whilst pretending that they care about the customer. (A way to hell being paved and presented as good intentions, in a gaming way so to speak)
The basics of economics teaches us that just because something is cheaper it does not mean it will save you money. This principle is paramount here, if you spend more money on the more expensive model you can save money with the games down the line. Think long term.
Below is a screenshot shot of the same game one in the ps store and another to buy it from different outlets online. Look at how much cheaper it is outside of the ps store? If you dont have access to disc based gaming you would be stuck with the expensive store option. Think carefully. Check out the below

but based on what you said it seems sony MAY be doing the same but being smart about it. I hope its not true because that will just hurt them in the end because that price difference is just extortionate.
